Josh Harwood

Consultant Ecologist

Josh is a Consultant Ecologist with 7 years of industry experience, joining Å·²©ÌåÓýƽ̨ Ecology Co-op in November 2022 after completing several seasons at anoÅ·²©ÌåÓýƽ̨r consultancy. During his degree he worked as a field assistant on bat, reptile and newt surveys. After completing his degree he spent some time working in south east Asia studying Å·²©ÌåÓýƽ̨ ecology of spitting cobras and conducting snake rescues, before returning to Å·²©ÌåÓýƽ̨ UK and consultancy. Josh has experience with various reports including; Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), landscape and ecological management plans (LEMPS) and small scale Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA).

Outside of work Josh enjoys playing rugby, is an active member of Å·²©ÌåÓýƽ̨ local Amphibian and Reptile Groups and enjoys photographing reptiles and amphibians (herptiles) whilst abroad, to date he has found over 300 species of herptiles globally and is hoping to increase this.

Licenses and Key Experience:

  • Great crested newt level 1 license â€� CL08

  • Smooth Snake & Sand Lizard Survey License â€� A29

  • Experienced in QGIS and Biodiversity Metric calculations for BNG

  • Leading on Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments

  • Survey lead for bat emergence and great crested newt surveys

  • Holds a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
